I have a precious12lb black dachsund. Her name is Lottie. Before I met Jeff the most excitement Lottie got was coming to work with me everyday, (everyone at Shack Energy Services calls her the shop dog). She would spend her days stretched out on the couch, only to be interrupted occasionally by the urge to go outside to potty. She had a good life, but little did she know all that she was missing out on. Lottie's first experience at the ranch was a hesitate one. She didn't exactly know what to think of the horses and bulls. All she could do was bark, tuck her tail and run off. Boss (Jeff's big black lab) quickly showed her the ropes. In no time Lottie was full of confidence and adventure. We would let her out of the gate and off she went. Exploring a new world with tasty round patties, tall grass, big water bowls, and giant new friends Lottie has become a new dog.
One day Lottie and Boss went exploring with Jeff. I went to run an errand and as I pulled back up to the house Jeff pulled up. Boss was in his normal spot on the back of the flatbed pickup and what else do I see a little Lottie dog next to him. Ahhh Lottie is only allowed to ride in the cab when I am with them because I am afraid she will fall off. I then soon learn that Jeff has spent the past 45 minutes searching for little Lottie. She apparently thought she should go exploring by herself. Jeff looked all over the pasture for her and could not find her. He even sent some guys on horses to look for her. He finally found her. Just in time before I got back. During Lottie's solo adventure she was introduced to some prickly pear. It took me a week to get all those little stickers out of her. I think she had a blast though, but maybe next time she will stay on the main path.
Jeff, our black dogs, and I occasionally take walks around headquarters. Boss of course stays in Jeff's view, but Lottie takes off as fast as she can. It is hilarious to watch her run through the grass. It is almost as tall as she is and she has to jump at each step. She looks like a giant black grasshopper leaping from grass to grass. When we near the tank Boss takes off into the water, Lottie follows close behind. As she gets up to the water instead of splashing in like Boss she dips her nose and runs the other direction. Ok so she isn't' totally cow dog yet, she still has a little priss in her. Kind of like her momma I guess ; )
Lottie loves the ranch life. The moment we pull on to the dirt road of the ranch she pops up, wags her tail, and watches out the window. I think she is just as excited as I am about starting a new journey with Jeff on the ranch.
Lottie in her usual position
Jeff and Lottie checking cows. This is Boss, he is the best dog. He loves Jeff and does anything he says. It's pretty neat. I always tell Jeff when he gets mad at Lottie when she doesn't mind, that her brain is just to small to understand.
