Our next destination Modesto CA. We traveled I 40 most of the way until we got to California. Eastern Arizona is the armpit of America, omg, it was not a pretty site. As we hit Flagstaff the scenery started to change and we found that western Arizona was very very pretty.
We finally hit the California state line late Tuesday night. We were cruising through New Mexico and Arizona at 75 mph, we hit the state line and crawled like snails at 55 mph. We learned a very importan fact about California. A vehicle pulling a trailer has to drive 55 and you also cannot drive in the left lane! Our trip through California just became twice as long. Jeff and I have decided we NEVER want to go back to California. We finally made it to Modesto, dropped off two bulls and picked up one who I like to call P.P. Pacific Pride journeyed back to Texas with us. The lady who owns half of PP gave us some California treasures for the ride home! Fresh Strawberries!!! They were delicious!!
We were back on the road again.... It took us all day to go from southern CA to northern CA and back again. We made it to the town just inside the California state line. I thought we would never get out of that place! Thursday we headed east but made a wonderful pit stop at the Grand Canyon! I didn't know what to expect, but it was beautiful! We went to a few lookout points and admired the view, we met a nice family from Europe (you can't go anywhere with Jeff and not meet someone new), bought a souvenir magnet, had a nice little picnic, and we were on the road again. My favorite part of the whole trip was our picnic on the edge of the canyon. We had turkey and munster cheese sandwiches, chips, fresh strawberries, and a root beer! We had an ugly black feathery visitor that would not leave us alone. I kept throwing rocks at it but Jeff kept throwing food so unfortunately I had to share my picnic with a pesky crow. After our lunch we headed down the canyon, stopping once at a look out point. Soon we were back on I 40 headed to Texas!
Our perfect picnic minus the pesky bird : )
When you get into eastern Arizona there are a lot of little shops that sell navajo rugs, moccasins, petrified wood, you know Indian things. I talked Jeff into stopping at one that we were almost embarrassed to go into. Yes we were one of those tourists, they got us. The place was hilarious from the outside, but I found some awesome mocassin slippers, so I had to buy them! The next morning I went to put them on and they gave me two right feet! Huh they are currently in the mail, I hope I eventually get them back with a left and a right foot. We'll see!
He is such a dork!
We drove till we were delirious and stopped off in New Mexico that night. While driving through Albuquerque we learned why they sing songs about the lights there. WoW, what a sight, it was really neat. The next morning we woke up extra early and cruised into Throckmorton around noon. What a fast and furious trip!
I had such a great time with Jeff, I am so lucky to have found such a perfect guy for me. Everyday I am just more and more blown away of how amazing he is. He can change a blown out tire on a dark busy I 40 as calm as can be, he makes me laugh at the perfect time, and best of all he puts up with my occasional brattyness : ) I can't wait for many more adventures in the passenger seat!
